Collier County, Fla.— June 2, 2016: As of June 1, 2016, the seat for County Commission District 2 is eligible for election during the November General Election. Qualifying for County Commission will occur during the regular qualifying period ending at noon on June 24. The period for qualifying by petition ended on May 23, therefore, only candidates who submitted the proper number of petitions prior to that date may qualify by petition. Additional candidates coming forward who wish to have their names on the ballot must qualify through payment of filing fees.
The seat for County Commission District 2 became eligible for election when Commissioner Georgia Hiller submitted her irrevocable resign-to-run letter to the Collier County Supervisor of Elections. In compliance with F.S. 99.012, no officer may qualify as a candidate for another state, district, county or municipal public office if the terms or any part thereof run concurrently with each other without resigning from the office he or she presently holds and the written resignation must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the first day of qualifying for the office he or she intends to seek.
Commissioner Hiller’s actions allow her to qualify for the office of Clerk of Courts and Comptroller while continuing to serve as County Commissioner until her successor takes office in November 2016. The voters of Collier County will select a successor to Commissioner Hiller who will fill the remaining two years of her term.
